| IMS_Enterprise |
Though the project doesn't necessarily develop Enterprise compliant tools, it does rely on them to some extent. 2012 update: As before, used in some of their systems (particularly Banner).

As an adjunct to the project, there has been a major development in creating personalised timetabling. Using a BPM approach and the IPP (infinity process platform) an integration has been built which allows students to self select tutorials, this is then feedback into the timetabling system and a personalised timetable created (in realtime) for each students. The system is being used initially in the Business School, but will be rolled out institutionally.

The new versions of Banner are now component based as opposed to Oracle based. It uses grails as a development platform which is presenting a challenge in terms of existing staff skills and development.

Having stakeholder engagement and involvement from the start of the process of systems changes and implementation has been critical for success. The move to Moodle has been a key example of this. Academics have been driving the process, based on pedagogical and not just technical requirements.

There is now a sharepoint installation in the Business School which is supported internally. Investigations are underway to integrate the document sharing, version control and collaboration features of SP with the BPM workflow capabilities of IPP. IPP has native sharepoint integration.

Modelling techniques developed through the project are now starting to be embedded in other large scale IT initiatives e.g. review of QA processes. Having a dedicated business analyst working within the project, allowed a level of detailed exploration than had previously been possible.

CETIS will send updates on IMS LIS and send link to CETIS IMS LTI webinar.

The university is not using Sharepoint coroporately but it is being used by the Business School. Team are involved in discussion about possible corporate use, and are planning to use consultants to help them discuss and define possible architecture, scalability etc and develop any possible migration. Any use of sharepoint would probably be for document driven workflows, not for data. The team have some concerns about use of Sharepoint and SOA approaches.

Have started to look at granularity of data stored about modules. The authorised list now links to admissions so students can only select modules which actually run during their enrollment period.
Posted by sheilamacneill at 2011-02-23 13:44:53
Team have created authorised list of progammes which align to module start dates and are now starting to investigate potential of XCRI output for marketing and also at other processes such as HEAR.

early days on technical side. In Prod call they would be interested to hear from Wilbert how the IMS meetings (Feb 2010) go and any relevant updates, particularly IMS LIS

Wilbert Kraan will update the project on relevant IMS specification work

Suggested project explore some of the JISC Enterprise Architecture projects and the TOGAF website as they share similar objectives
Posted by SheilaMacneill at 2009-03-13 16:25:54
Agreed that CETIS will work with business analysts when draft technical designs/specifications are ready to explore ways to extend/convert into other shareable outputs such as eFramework SUMs

In terms of software implementation the work will be proprietary - though available to other users of Banner. However models and other findings of the project will be public.
