Modelling language used in Archi
TOGAF
Piloting it now in a quality management & course related information project. 2012 update: using togaf principles as part of their Archimate work.
XCRI
using XCRI Cap 1.1 have developed domain model classes and database mappings. 2012 update: This approach has been the bases for the External Examiner Database

Technologies less

PHP
Using software from Pineapple project, Uni of Plymouth
Sharepoint
Orginally thought to use infopath to capture course related information. Institution now investigating procurement of CMS, project will migrate to chosen platform when it is in place. 2012 update: No final decision has been made on institutional CMS so no further work has been done with Sharepoint.
Archi
To create EA models - finding it easy to use and fit for purpose. 2012 still using
BiZZdesign Architect
Stopped using Bizzdesign and switched to Archi. ROI on licence fee not really justifiable until there is institutional backing for EA approaches
My SQL
Backend for database; have migrated data from Access database, some discussion about possible migration to Oracle. 2012 update: no progress been made on any migration to Oracle
GlassFish
Using to build "ChangeHeap" - chance to try out web services and full java enterprise functionality and web apps suite.
Hibernate
for persistence and database creation, and for data grabs from repositories.
Alfresco
Document management system being used in mini pilot. Team impressed with features for automatic rules and transformations
Change Heap
Simple inhouse "change repository". Web interface allows information about changes to Uni processes to be easily stored and shared. Will provide a snapshot of activty and key people involved. 2012 update: due for completion, but change in management has meant less interest in this development.
Linux
server operating system
Maven
Java based build tool, used for automated code builds
Subversion
Used for version control
Jenkins
Continuous integration service, auto testing from builds through to deployment
Artifactory
artefactory artefact repository, using in conjunction with Jenkins, artifacts associated with builds so provides good foundations for testing and deployment
Sonar
Static code analyser, used for code quality metrics as part of testing cycle.
Selenium Web Driver
Automated acceptance testing, particularly usefully for end to end testing.

The team have been using a number of tools to support their development, testing and deployment cycle - maven, subversion, Jenkins, artefactory, sonar, and Selenium Web Driver. The have found that the level of automation and integration has been really helpful in quality control of their build, testing and deployment workflows.

At the moment, the change in the institutional Executive team has led to a period of no new process led developments, the team are moving things forward where possible but this does present challenges in terms of embedding and sustainability of the work of the project.

Team have found that a "just enough buy-in" approach has been very useful. E.g. the external examiners model, it has sparked interest and ideas for use and future developments.

The TOGAF pilot is now complete, and the team have used some of the higher level TOGAF principles and used them within Archi/ archimate work.

The team have found the Pinapple Approach to be very useful, and it has helped them moved forward in terms of creating advice and guidance. However until a final decision is made on the institutional CMS, this work can't really progress much further in terms of embedding into institutional systems.

There still hasn't been any formal decision about an institutional wide CMS system so no further from pilots can be taken forward at the moment.
