Intent is to include any type of OER resource - if textual will attempt to include textual content in full text search/ Waypoint index (to improve recall [&granularity] )

There are a number of resources that the project maybe able to release into the static collection - these may also be represented in JorumOpen

such a plugin is primarily focused on creating an RSS for resources generating plugin; costs and time permitting a similar plugin may be developed for OAI-PMH / OAI-dc

such a plugin will be made freely available under a suitable license; note: this plugin would be of use to CETIS

once spec'ed this development will be contracted out to an experienced commercial developer

development of wordpress plugin to support the creation of a plugins for wordpress to create metadata/rss about resources rather than about posts
Posted by johnr at 2011-01-28 14:06:08
Initial classification of content at high level (based on course descriptions) but then also run at a more detailed level of granularity (based on resource descriptions)

Developing metadata in wordpress widget

Filter of sources to restrict subject domain helps reduce false matches in Waypoint (Sux0r will handle this filtering - tested Waypoint with manual filter)
Posted by johnr at 2011-01-28 14:02:03
Test of Waypoint against 1000 OERCommons resources against test classification scheme

Sux0r as rss feed aggregator and Bayesian filter

Souces: UKOER, OCWC, Journal TOCs, OERCommons, Xpert; have also looked at wikimedia commons

BFF api sends rss feed to Waypoint

Creative Commons (CC-BY-SA, or CC-BY-NC) licence for any project-created content

classification can be modified as seen fit/ on the fly (can classify 10-100 000 records an hour so easy to change)

waypoint uses lucene to index doc (structured xml) then uses constraint-based classification to associate content with nodes in the classification scheme (can be faceted); lucene also supports free text search

easy to adapt tools to work with any subject domain which has a specialist detailed classification scheme

Wordpress chosen as it uses rss, and has a lot of other possible extensions - dc, oai-pmh, etc
