IMS_Learning_Design
Of general interest but no specific use to the project
xcri
Still interested but want to ensure they fit in with institutional requirements. 2012 update: Not directly relevant to the project, but there is increasing institutional interest.
RSS
Feeds with a flexible tagging approach in combination with some aggregation capability seem an obvious and straightforward approach to the repurposing of curriculum data. 2012 update: Repurposing underlying exisiting framework used by the library to pull data from various sources and then redistribute. Using a more linked data approach than RSS feeds.
BPMN
initial exploration for modelling purposes. 2012 update: Not used after initial exploration.
SCOUNL
Using information literacy framework. 2012 update: framework underpins information literacy work.
8LEM
Principles and framework integrated into workshop activity cards. 2012 update: Workshop and activity cards now customised and extended from original 8LEM framework.

Balsamiq
Used for prototyping and early UI developments. 2012 update: Building on positive experiences, and time savings in prototypes/development cycle, developers now using Balsamiq for all developments and using a rapid prototyping methodology.
flickr
Using to share images from workshops. 2012 update: Still using, have found it gives a useful social context to sharing workshop activities.
delicious
2012 update: Use has dropped off after initial experiments. Have found slideshare and flickr more useful.
slideshare
Using to share presentations from workshops and reuse/embed in blogs etc. 2012 update: Still using to share workshop materials.
YouTube
For dissmenination, project has also shared resources for creating closed captions. 2012 update: Not using as much but hope that some of the projects digtal stories will be openly released via Youtube.
Apple_Podcast_Producer
To create and publish branded podcasts. Team producing templates for academics. 2012 update: Still using but working more with MiiTuu at the moment. May use more to create more polished final outputs/videos.
MiiTuu
Recently purchased one ipad with the software, still experimenting with use for digital story capture. Would like to share experinences with T-Sparc team.

The Viewpoints process is now formally embedded in the course re-validation process, and the team are embarking on a round of 'train the trainer' workshops to create a network of Viewpoints Champions to cascade throughout the University. The team are also going to make available a set of workshop resource packs (cards, boards etc) which champions can book out through the library and so use can be monitored.

The narration tool discussed at last call has been put on the back burner, as development was going to be undertaken by another project. The team hope that they can use the widget being built by the Coeducate project to fulfill this requirement.

Team see timetabling as a potential next step, and again would like to try and use a similar data driven approach to creating a more personalised timetabling system for students.

The team have been able to repurpose underlying technical approaches developed primarily in the library context as a basis for restructuring of course template areas in VLE. All courses will have a common template which pulls in information on external examiners, NSS data, etc.

Although xcri not of direct relevance to the project, there is a growing level of interest institutionally around data collection in general. As the institution has now formally adopted a set of assessment and feedback principles, they are looking at ways to add not only learning outcomes but the key learning processes (principles) used by courses. As Viewpoints process formally part of course re-validation this data is now available.

Will build "narration tool" during 2011 to replicate what happened in workshop - recreate table for strategic overview form - most probably a simple web form with prepopulated drop down lists. Team confident that there thinking around structured data will allow outputs to be reconfigured and shared within other institutional curriculum design processes.

Balsamiq proved very useful for mock-ups/wireframe developments. Having wireframes has helped get more meaningful feedback during workshops. Discussed writing up more about this aspect of the design process. Conversely has led to some additional expectations for time to develop "real" tools.

The team hope to have a public beta version of the first tool available by October 09. They are working on back-end data structures just now, and CETIS has agreed to informally discuss there UML models before they are made shareable with the rest of the programme and the wider community.

Follow up meeting on 10 June 2009. Tool prototyping well underway. Concentrating on UI just now, and development starting with assessment and feedback reflective tool. Another 4 tools will be built using a common interface which will provide the co-ordinated suite of integrated tools. The suite will provide a common interface with different views on key strategic points in the curriculum design process. They will be based on proven educational theories/principles such as REAP and SCOUNL 7 pillars. The tools will probably be built in flash though a final decision hasn't been made.

The project will develop a tool (desktop app, possibly flash based) based on 4 main areas: assessement and feedback (based on REAP principles); information literacy skills (based on SCONUL seven pillars model); community (based on Salmon's 5 stage model) and teaching styles (based on Ramsden). At this stage the team are developing use cases with staff to inform the requirements process for the tool development
