SRC

Supporting Responsive Curricula
The Supporting Responsive Curricula (SRC) Project will pilot agile, demand-led curriculum design processes that promote flexible delivery and enhance learner employability. SRC will break new ground in curriculum interoperability, piloting the “tagging” of curriculum with competences valued by employers and professional bodies to support informed choice about study options and assist learners in choosing electives to support their career intentions and in showcasing their experience and abilities for a professional audience.

Project outcomes are well placed in terms of sustainability as many of them e.g. updated course forms, are already embedded in institutional workflows.

The institution is focusing on making best use of the systems they have in place at the moment and is not planning any additional system upgrades/migrations.

SRC is part of a wider process and system integrations at MMU eg. the W2C project. Many of the technical integrations are part of the wider 'mega mash' approach.

Institutional decision to go with Mahara as the centrally provided e-porfolio decision has been taken. The system will go live in September 2013. Departments such as Physiotherapy who currently use PebblePad can continue to use, but will have to pay for it from their own budget and won't get central support.

Good progress has been made in developing and setting up the academic course database, a new course description form has also be approved. The next step is to develop a workflow. Hoping to use Archimate for modelling and run more workshops to engage key stakeholders, particularly in QA dept.

Have postponed decision on eportfolio system until January 2011. Continuing to work with existing systems Pepplepad and inhouse "talentonview" cv/showcase tool. Team need to consider cost/benefits of adopting institution wide system v maintaining/supporting inhouse systems. In terms of the digital media course, the employers there don't want institutional systems with student's work, they want to see student created work "live" on the web in non-institutionally branded sites.

Key issues around developing curriculum mapping tool:
*will they use agresso tool?
*will they make more use of sharepoint? (possibly based on University of South Queensland model)
*will they develop a hybrid of the two

Project subsumed somewhat by new institution wide curriculum revamp project. This is based in no small way on impact of SRC work. Team have just had an "extraordinary" steering group meeting to revise project plan in light of wider institutional project.

Initial look at IMS/IEEE RCDEO suggests that what's really required is an element that indicates that a competence is _not_ like another competence
