PC3

Personalised Curriculum Creation through Coaching
The proposed Personalised Curriculum Creation through Coaching (PC3) project will develop a framework that places coaching at the heart of the personalised curriculum design. Learners will be able to select provision suitable to their needs, construct an award (or module set), access resources and learning support, and negotiate assessment, with structured support from a personal coach. The PC3 Framework will facilitate this process by developing the necessary processes, documentation, training and technological support, within the context of Leeds Met’s flexible learning regulations and systems.

ADL_SCORM
Only worked in IE, nothing else. Worked around by creating content in WebCT, then export as zipped html.
XCRI
Would be useful to be able to provide module level information to students. That information is not available electronically yet. Would be interested at module level XCRI. The department doesn't have explicit pre- and post-requisites, even if there is an expectation that you have a certain level of competence. 2012 update: now working at course, not module level so not appropriate for xcri

Content_Packaging
See SCORM
WebCT Powerlinks
link to institutional repository - through Unicyle project, but now institution has moved to BB
Pebblepad
Mainly used for student reflection. Will also be used for student - teacher interaction. Also to be used for coaching sessions. 2012 update Pebblepad now institutional eportfolio system. Project very involved in the decison making process.
WebCT
Extreme version. Main content platform, see SCORM entry. 2012 update: institution has moved to BB
CETIS transcoder
Maybe used to convert html packages to SCORM or CP. 2012 update - not actually used
Myknowledgemap
The plan was to use their competency mapping tools for the project (multi-port). Then the university started a process to procure an eportfolio system, which is tending to pebblepad. Multi-port probably has more sophisticated competency mapping, but the eportfolio part isn't so strong. 2012 update: Pebblepad now being implemented as institutional e-porfolio system.
Ning
Used as a social networking tool for the module that is associated with the project - Due to change of funding in 2010 use of Ning has been dropped. Using tools in the VLE now.
Elluminate
Used for seminars and other synchronous group activities - some coaching session more effective f2f. 2012 update, still using for some coaching sessions and has also been used for some internal project meetings now project team more distributed.
Youtube
Sharing videos on coaching techniques. 2012 update: now interest from students in sharing their coaching videos through the project channel and the Carnegie coaching channel.

learning object creation tool - components it currently offers too restrictive and needed lots of extra flash development to create content team wanted
CourseLab,
learning object creation tool - trialling 2010/2011 have found some issues with SCORM export, doesn't render correctly in their VLE
Twitter
project dissemination. 2012 update: still using but not as much as previously
Facebook
project dissemination 2012 update some students are now using FB for general course communication, and also some are starting to use it for actual coaching sessions. This has been their choice.

The team are working with institutional AV staff around various video recordings with students and also to record the P3C conference and make all the sessions available as resources.

The team are going to revisit their initial work on coaching competencies, and look at ways of sharing. Again due to change of focus the work on competencies hasn't been a priority. They have used a set of leadership competencies within Pebblepad but there are some issues around the ownership/sharing of these.

Team hope to have time to revisit the bundles approach to sharing their learning designs. But that might not happen until after May.

A major achievement has been the adoption of Pebblepad as the institutional e-portfolio system. However there are still issues around integration of activities in Pebblepad and content in the VLE. Students don't like switching between systems.

The project has has a change of focus for the later part of its lifecyle and is now working much more closely with students. The technology focus is now around supporting student choices for technology use.

The project has encountered difficulties in firstly in finding a suitable content creation tool. Then after a gap when they re-visited their learning objects, they have found it problematic to extract content and make it more generic. However they are working with Infonet and are creating sharable resources which will be linked to in the Design Studio. Resources in the institutional VLE should be harvested into Jorum as part of wider institutional processes developed through JISC/HE OER projects such as Streamline.

Team are doing some work around competencies and have developed a list of coaching competencies, however are not sure how they will structure/display it to staff/students. CETIS offered help when/if needed in this area.

Team hoping to use bundles approach (from Planet project) to capture and describe practice. They feel that this will be more usable than a formal pattern language.

Also very important to enable integration with Intralibrary repository - The myknowledgemap tools supposedly are already capable of doing this - however the question for the project is more around another WebCT powerlink into the repo - presumably using open standards like SWORD and SRU/W

Suggested that there is potential for SUM development describing the integrations/services etc. Team have already spoken to MkKnowledgemap about this.

The key to this from a technical point of view is the adoption of assessment and eportfolio tools developed by Myknowledgemap. Integration of these with WebCT through development of a "powerlink".
